«Come over, come join us»

Welcome, we are a coalition of residents, standing together to protect the island of Hawai`i from the harmful effects of GMO farming on our island. We support alternatives and healthier opportunities to GMOs and industrial agriculture in general. We ask that all districts of this island form local groups and work with us to protect our aina (land), our ecosystem, and our diversity for future generations.

GMO’s are a complex issue, and have many different facets on how they affect people’s lives, especially in Hawai`i. We know this is a grassroots effort — and that means getting people from all walks of life and parts of the island to offer their perspective and mana’o. There are many ways to approach the «on the ground» education in different parts of society (like schools, farms, food stores, etc.). We encourage you to get involved, see how you can help, and what may be beneficial to the movement to remove GMOs from the environment.

All communications are organized on our website, so that they are easy to use, print out, and share. We strive to compile information that is current and has been vetted to help the consumer utilize important information. Our focus is to shape legislation that will protect Hawai`i Island. We do plan and participate in educational community events, sign waving rallies, and marches.

Our blog can be viewed on the main page of our website so that you just have one URL to remember. Blog entries help you to share timely information with your peers. To bookmark our blog or to access our blog directly, visit http://GMOFreeHawaiiIsland.blogspot.com

We have a GMO Free Hawai`i Island page on Facebook that is open to the public and is searchable. Anyone with a Facebook account can participate in the ongoing discussion(s) as it is an open source for information sharing and networking of people involved in the movement.

If you would like to receive an occasional update on upcoming events and bill summaries, send us an email at [email protected] and put «NEWSLETTER» in the title. Please provide a brief introduction as to who you are, what part of the island you hail from, and how you want to contribute. You will be added to the list and will receive an email as-soon-as the update is sent out. Thank you so much for participating, and we look forward to your ideas and working with you.

Our calendar will help you stay involved with GMO community events on our island. When provided we will also share event information for neighboring islands. When applicable we will provide PDF event files, that you can print out and share within your community, or workplace.

We would love to hear from you, especially if there is something that you can do to support the efforts of the group. There is so much work to do, and it can be very taxing on our small group. If you would like to contribute your time, and skills we would love to hear from you. Our email address is [email protected].
